Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about PetChu products, ingredients, safety, and The Chu Routine.
About MooChu Milk
Is MooChu safe for cats? I thought cats were lactose intolerant.
Yes — absolutely safe. MooChu is formulated as a lactose-free pet milk. We remove lactose through enzymatic processing (lactase), making it fully digestible for cats and dogs alike. We also include lactase enzyme as a listed ingredient for complete transparency. Cats can enjoy it without digestive discomfort.
What makes MooChu the "first calming cow milk for pets"?
We conducted thorough competitive research. While calming supplements for pets exist (including goat milk powders with L-Theanine), no competitor offers a ready-to-serve liquid calming cow milk.
How does L-Theanine work for pets?
L-Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in green tea that promotes relaxation without sedation. It works by increasing GABA, dopamine, and serotonin levels in the brain. In pets, it's been shown to reduce stress-related behaviors, lower cortisol response, and promote calm focus — without causing drowsiness or behavioral changes.
Does MooChu need refrigeration?
No refrigeration is needed before opening. MooChu is UHT (Ultra High Temperature) pasteurized, making it shelf-stable until opened. Once opened, refrigerate and use within 24-48 hours. This makes it ideal for travel, on-the-go use, and pantry storage.
What are postbiotics and why does MooChu use them instead of probiotics?
Probiotics are live bacteria that survive in your gut — but they cannot survive UHT sterilization. Postbiotics are the bioactive compounds produced by (or derived from) probiotic bacteria, including heat-killed Lactobacillus. They provide many of the same gut health benefits as probiotics without requiring live organisms. This makes them perfectly compatible with our UHT process, and fully labelable under ISAPP's established postbiotic definition.
Do I need to mix MooChu with water before serving?
No — MooChu is a liquid form of pet milk and ready to serve straight from the pouch, no mixing, no prep, no diluting required. That's the whole point. Just twist open the cap and pour into a bowl. It's already perfectly balanced in consistency and concentration for cats and dogs. If anything, you can gently warm the pouch in a bowl of hot water for 1-2 minutes if your pet prefers a slightly warm temperature — but never microwave. Some pet parents also add it as a meal topper or freeze it into ice cube treats, but those are optional serving ideas, not requirements.
Is MooChu only for puppies and kittens?
Not at all — MooChu is designed for pets of all life stages, from young adults through seniors. While puppies and kittens are often the most visible audience for pet milk, MooChu's functional ingredient stack is actually most meaningful for adult and senior pets. L-Theanine calming support, postbiotic gut health, taurine for cardiac and vision maintenance, and hydration encouragement are all especially valuable for adult cats and dogs — particularly seniors with reduced appetite, picky drinkers, or pets experiencing anxiety. If your pet is under 4 weeks old or has specific medical conditions, consult your veterinarian first. For everyone else: all ages, all breeds, cats and dogs welcome.
About LickChu Treats
What is propolis and is it safe for pets?
Propolis is a resinous substance collected by bees from trees and used to seal their hives. It contains over 300 active compounds including flavonoids, phenolic acids, and esters with documented antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and immune-modulating properties. Pet-grade propolis is carefully processed to remove compounds that may be inappropriate for animal consumption, and is used in pet nutrition at established safe inclusion levels.
Can both cats and dogs eat LickChu?
Yes — LickChu is formulated for both cats and dogs. We carefully balance palatability and ingredient levels to ensure safety and appeal across both species. The protein-forward flavors (Chicken, Salmon) naturally appeal to both, and the functional ingredients are dosed appropriately for both cats and dogs based on body weight.
How many sticks per day can my pet have?
LickChu is designed as a daily treat — 1-2 sticks per day is the recommended amount for most pets, depending on their size and your overall feeding routine. As with any treat, LickChu should complement, not replace, a complete and balanced primary diet. Follow the feeding guide on the packaging for species and weight-specific recommendations.
LickChu contains hyaluronic acid — what does that do for pets?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring compound found in connective tissue, skin, and joints. In pets, it serves three roles. Joint lubrication: HA is a key component of synovial fluid — the natural cushion between joints. Daily supplementation helps maintain cartilage health and reduces friction, especially valuable for active breeds or aging pets. Skin and coat health: HA binds moisture to skin cells, supporting elasticity, hydration, and a healthy coat from the inside out. Gut lining support: emerging research suggests HA helps maintain the protective mucosal lining of the GI tract. Delivering it through a lickable treat is smart — the liquid format absorbs faster than dry treats, and the daily serving creates the consistent intake needed to see real results.
How rare is calming support in a lickable treat? What makes LickChu's calming angle unique?
Genuinely rare. The lickable treat category has stayed almost entirely protein-forward — chicken, tuna, salmon, maybe some added vitamins. Calming supplements exist, but they come as powders, capsules, or soft chews that feel medicinal and require effort. LickChu is different. The format itself is already calming — licking activates a pet's natural self-soothing mechanism, releasing endorphins and lowering stress hormones before any functional ingredient even takes effect. The calming ingredient then compounds that effect. Two layers of calm, one treat. For anxious pets, this is a meaningful step up from anything currently on the market.
About BiteChu Chews
Can BiteChu replace brushing my dog's teeth?
BiteChu is a meaningful supplement to your dog's oral care routine and can significantly reduce plaque and tartar buildup through its mechanical chewing action and coconut oil core. For dogs with severe dental disease, we recommend consulting your veterinarian. For healthy dogs, daily BiteChu as part of The Chu Routine provides consistent maintenance that reduces the frequency of professional cleanings.
Why is BiteChu plant-based? Most dental chews contain meat.
Plant-based formulation allows us to achieve the airy, bubbly extrusion texture that provides the most effective mechanical cleaning action. Meat-based chews tend to be denser, softer, and less effective at physically removing tartar. Sweet potato and pumpkin also provide prebiotic fiber that feeds the gut microbiome — a secondary benefit meat-based chews don't offer.
What exactly is "airy extrusion texture" and why does it matter for dental care?
Extrusion is a manufacturing process where material is forced through a shaped die under high heat and pressure — the same method used to make many pet foods. The "airy" part comes from controlling gas expansion during that process, creating a porous, open-celled internal structure with microscopic air pockets throughout — similar to a firm sponge. Here's why it matters: dense, rubbery chews flex away from the tooth surface, reducing contact and limiting how much plaque actually gets removed. An airy, porous chew works differently — as the tooth presses into it, the edges of those internal cells create friction against the tooth surface, acting like tiny bristles. More contact, more scrubbing, more plaque removal per bite. Think of the difference between wiping a counter with a smooth cloth versus a textured sponge. Both touch the surface — only one actually cleans it.
What is the coconut oil core in BiteChu Calm — and how does it benefit dental health?
The coconut oil core is a functional filling inside the BiteChu Calm chew — not there for flavor, but for oral health. Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a medium-chain fatty acid with well-documented antimicrobial properties. When a dog chews through to the center, the oil releases and coats the surfaces of teeth, gums, and the interior of the mouth. Lauric acid then disrupts the cell membranes of harmful oral bacteria — including species directly linked to plaque formation and bad breath — reducing bacterial load and inhibiting regrowth.
The result is a two-step action in one chew: the airy outer texture mechanically scrubs existing plaque off the tooth surface, while the coconut oil center chemically suppresses new plaque from forming. That's why we call it a built-in natural toothpaste — because it genuinely functions like one.
How rare is calming support in a dental chew? What makes BiteChu Calm stand out?
Extremely rare — practically non-existent as a dedicated product. The dental chew category has one job: clean teeth. Greenies, Dentastix, Whimzees, Zuke's Z-Bones — all formulated purely for oral hygiene. Calming chews exist, but as a completely separate product category. No one has meaningfully combined the two. BiteChu Calm changes that.
The logic is simple: dogs need a dental chew in the evening anyway. Pet parents are already building it into a bedtime routine. So why not use that same moment to actively support the transition into calm, settled rest? The calming ingredients work synergistically with the act of chewing — extended, rhythmic chewing is naturally calming for dogs, releasing serotonin and reducing cortisol. The functional calming ingredient amplifies that effect.
One chew. Two jobs. No extra product to manage. For dogs that struggle to settle in the evening, BiteChu Calm is a genuinely novel solution.
How should I use the BiteChu Duo for best results — is it better than using just Clean or just Calm?
The Duo is designed for rotating use — and used that way, it outperforms either product alone for most dogs. Rotating covers both bases across the week without rigid scheduling — you just read your dog's day and choose accordingly.
For most pet parents, the Duo becomes the default: open the pack, pick the right chew for the evening.
The Chu Routine & Kits
Do I have to use all three products to see benefits?
Not at all. Each PetChu product delivers its benefits independently — you'll see results from MooChu alone, or LickChu alone. The Chu Routine framework is about amplifying results through consistency and compounding daily care. Think of it like taking vitamins: one is good, a thoughtful combination is better. Start with what resonates most and build from there.
Why is a daily routine better than giving treats or supplements randomly?
Consistency is key to getting the most out of functional ingredients. Many ingredients -like L-theanine, postbiotics, or hyaluronic acid - are typically used over time as part of a regular routine. Occasional use is less likely to deliver noticeable benefits.
There’s also a behavioral benefit. Pets thrive on predictability. When MooChu reliably appears in the morning, LickChu mid-day, and BiteChu in the evening, your pet begins to trust the rhythm of their day. That predictability is calming in itself. This routine can support both daily nutrition and a more structured, reassuring environment.
My pet is already on a supplement routine. Can I add The Chu Routine on top of that?
In most cases, yes. PetChu products are designed as complementary daily care — not replacements for prescribed supplements or medical treatments. That said, it's always worth a quick check with your veterinarian, particularly if your pet is on medications or has a specific health condition.
One thing to keep in mind: MooChu, LickChu, and BiteChu include functional ingredients that may support different aspects of wellness — L-Theanine, propolis, hyaluronic acid, postbiotics, and more. If your pet is already receiving high amounts of similar ingredients, it’s worth discussing with your vet. For generally healthy pets on wellness supplements like fish oil, joint support, or probiotics, The Chu Routine can fit alongside an existing routine and may help simplify daily care in a more consistent, enjoyable format.
